Almost One! Picture Post

I can't believe our sweet boy will be one just two weeks from today!  Last month my great friend (and amazing photographer) Laura took Keegan's one year photos for us.  It was an overcast day and it even started raining on us before we left and she still managed to take these incredible pictures that we will always treasure.  I love them so much because I think they capture his sweet and active personality perfectly.

Oh how we love this boy!  We are so excited to celebrate his first year next weekend!

First Steps!

Look who decided to start walking today!  His first couple of steps were to his Aunt Kara late this afternoon and after she left he decided to keep it up.  We have some of his first tries on video.
This second video is about ten minutes later when we realized the feet in his pajamas were holding him back.  So our naked boy decided to take off!

He is so excited about it!  He laughs the whole time and looks for us to clap and cheer for him.  In the words of his Nana....There's no stopping him now :-)

Fun with Ava

Last Thursday Ava and I went to the Sea Life Aquarium in Grapevine with her sweet friends Garrett and Aiden.  I decided last minute to send Keegan with his grandparents because I knew he would not enjoy being in the stroller all day and I'm so glad that I did!  It was so nice to be able to spend a fun day giving Ava my undivided attention.
She really enjoyed running around with her friends and all of the amazing sea creatures.  She is still talking about the jellyfish and the sting rays this week.

A fun view from below :-)
Ava would not even entertain the idea of walking across the glass floor.  There were sharks on above us, beneath us and on both sides of us as we walked through the tunnel.  She preferred to be carried over it both times!
The tickets are all day passes so it was great to be able to grab lunch and tour it again.  It was a really fun day with Ava and good friends Carla & Melissa.
Carla is actually very sick in ICU right now struggling with fluid in her lungs.  Please, please pray throughout your days for her and for her family over the next few weeks

11 Months

Keegan is 11 months old and I can't believe we are only a month away from one!  It's so fun to watch him lately because he is doing new things every day. Here's what he is up to this month....
He started saying Mama a few weeks ago right after Presley's birthday party.  Maybe she was a good influence because she says mama about 50 times a day.  It is the sweetest sound and I'm glad we can add one more word other than Dada to his vocabulary.
He now has four bottom teeth and nothing on the top.  The two middle ones are so big and they really show up in his smile now.
A couple of weeks ago Jeff called me over to look at him sitting on the floor with the little people airplane.  We watched as he opened and closed the little door and took the people in and out of the plane.  It was the first time we saw him actually 'play' and not just try to chew on or destroy something!  He has really started to seem more like a toddler lately.
He is now on the same eating schedule as Ava; breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner.  He usually has a big bowl of oatmeal and applesauce for breakfast and toast with turkey or chicken bites and a banana for lunch.  He still has baby food for dinner most nights.  So far he has not been picky at all.  We try new things all the time and I can't really think of anything he won't eat.  His favorites right now are bunny grahms and sweet potatoes.  He still gets up once a night.  It could be midnight, 2 or 4.  I feed him and rock him and he usually sleeps until at least 8:00.  He has recently started trying to drop the morning nap.  I knew it was coming but I'm thinking Ava didn't drop the morning nap until at least 15 months.  But he has proven to be a completely different baby from the very beggining so I guess I shouldn't be surprised :-)

He is such a happy little man and his sweet little laugh continues to be one of our favorite things about him.  The other night while we were watching the Grammy's we caught him dancing his heart out to a performance while holding onto the toy box.  He swayed and bounced and clapped and we could not stop laughing!

Keegan, you bring so much joy to our home every day.  Our family is better with you in it and we love you so very much!
And here's a bonus pic of our little valentines yesterday.

We enjoyed a fun dinner out with friends and a box of chocolates from Daddy :-)

3.5

Ava is three and a half years old today!  She is so grown up and I feel like so much of it has happened the last 6 months.  She is so observant of everything going on around her and Jeff and I have just started realizing how much she listens to us when we talk to each other.  She soaks everything in and we are amazed at everything she understands!  If she's puzzled she will often ask 'what or who are you talkin about?'  She has a desire to know everything.  Christmas and birthdays will be tricky from here on out.

She is so sweet with her brother.  She has a hard time with him getting into her things some days but she spends so much time taking him toys, talking to him, playing with him and making him laugh.
Very occasionally I will take Keegan to his grandparents while Ava and I have a play date or something fun planned.  Within an hour she is upset and asking when we are picking him up.  She does not like to be separated from him for long.
She looks after him and tells us when he's about to get into something that he shouldn't.  She has taken so much ownership of him. The other day she told me she had to go potty and asked me if I could watch him for her. She was so serious and I still laugh when I think about it.  I told her I would be happy to babysit during her potty break :-)
She loves to dance even though she tells us all the time on her days of class that 'it's really hard work.' Ha!  The thought of her performing in a recital in four months blows me away.
It's been fun watching her build relationships with a group of girls that she met for the first time on the first day of class 6 months ago.  She treasures her friendships and talks about her closest friends all the time.  I think it's precious.
She doesn't really have a favorite thing to play with right now.  Everyday it's different.  But I would say that riding her tricycle is probably her very favorite thing to do right now.  She loves for either Jeff or me to walk along beside her while she takes the block, always on the look out for acorns, flowers and rocks.  Her basket is always full by the time we make it home.  Lucky for her this winter has been more like spring and she has been able to ride a lot.
Ava loves to go to church.  Jeff and I love teaching her Sunday School class every other week but when we go to 'big church' her other teachers take them to chapel.  When we pick her up they always tell us how about how animated she is.  She sings and dances with all her might.  I always tease her about being a dancing baptist.  She loves to listen and sing to her praise songs in the car and she's just recently started asking questions about them.  I know she gets the easy ones like 'Jesus loves me' but last week she held up her index finger and asked me what her 'light' was.  Whew.... I'm not sure I was ready for that one!  But I did the best I could explaining the love of Jesus living through us and after at least a twenty minute conversation she said 'OK, I got it."  But I have a good feeling we will revisit this again :-)
She is very sensitive and emotional.  I think it's because she's a strong willed three year old but Jeff thinks it's because she has such a big heart.  She does give all of us so much love.  After I make her breakfast or lunch and I head off to do chores I'll call to her and ask her if she needs anything.  Most days she yells back 'just some hugs and kisses.'  I told her months ago that mommies never run out of kisses so I think she's trying to wear me down :-)  But of course, I always head over to her and hold her and love her, remembering the days of tiny baby Ava and wondering where the time has gone.
